AREAS OF PRACTICE
Bill concentrates his practice in complex and sophisticated family law, dissolution of marriage, paternity, pre-marital agreements, pre and post judgment issues and litigation. In addition, Bill is certified by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers as an arbitrator for family law issues and serves as a chair qualified arbitrator for the Court Annexed Arbitration Program which is part of the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit.
Mr. Scott is a native of DuPage County and was born and raised in Wheaton. He is a lifelong resident of Wheaton and Glen Ellyn. He is a graduate of Saint Louis University and a graduate of the DePaul University College of Law. During his lengthy career, Mr. Scott has represented clients in the trial courts of Illinois, as well as in the First, Second and Third Appellate Court Districts and has argued before the Illinois Supreme Court. He has been involved in the drafting and preparation of legislation and has frequently testified before committees of the Illinois State Legislature as well as Supreme Court Committees. Mr. Scott was involved in the drafting and passage of legislation permitting the entry of Qualified Illinois Domestic Relations Orders permitting the division and allocation of Illinois State pension benefits between divorced spouses in Illinois. He also participated in the drafting and passage of the recent rewrite to the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act. Mr. Scott is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the DuPage County Bar Association where he served as President from 1989 to 1991. He has been a Fellow of the prestigious American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers since 1994 and served as the President of the Illinois Chapter from 2002 to 2004. He served as the Illinois Chapter Delegate to the National Board of Governors of the Academy from 2009 to 2015. Mr. Scott has chaired the Family Law and Practice Committee of the DuPage County Bar Association on several occasions as well as the Entertainment and Judiciary Committees. He has served on the General Assembly of the Illinois State Bar Association and has chaired the Illinois State Bar Association’s Family Law Section Council and continues to serve on that Council. Bill has written numerous articles for the DuPage County Bar Brief and other publications. He is a frequent lecturer and presenter at educational seminars and has spoken before the Illinois State Bar Association, the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education, the DuPage County Bar Association, the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, The Northwest Suburban CPA Association and numerous other groups. Bill is a recipient of the DuPage County Board of Directors Award in 2000 and received the Illinois State Bar Association’s Board of Governor’s Award in 2016. Bill is also the 2017 Recipient of the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Samuel S. Berger Award which is awarded to a lawyer who exemplifies Judge Berger’s standards of integrity, courtesy and knowledge of family law and who also possesses his extraordinary ability to solve human problems. bar admissions
